The urban legends about stars are many and especially rich in mythological matters. The Greek ancient scientists studied and observed the stars due to the reason that the Greeks where mostly sailors and needed guidence through the seas. The stars where helping them reach their destignation of foresee the good or bad weather or climate changes. Maybe that's the reason that Pleiades and Iades are named that way. Pleiades comes from pleo which means sail, and Iades from Iein which means rain.

Pleiades where stars announcing the maturity of grain and cereals, and they appeared on the sky every May.On the other hand, when the where vanishing, that ment the begging of autumn as a season. Therefore, pleiades are connected with agriculture.

According to Greek Mythology, Pleiades where the seven daughters of Atlas, the titan brother of Promitheus, and their mother was Pleoni, the sister of thet greatest Titan ever, the Okeanos (ocean).

Their names where Taygeta, Electra, Alcyone, Sterope, Celaeno, Maia and Merope. All of them where married with Gods accept Merope who chose a mortal for a husbant. His name was Sisifos.

A very well known legend is that of the Pleiades's hunter, Orion. Orion was a legendary hunter who felt lust for Pleiades and their mother. They tried to escape from him and when they reached the end of their strength, the called Zeus, the father of Gods and he heared their prayrs. He saved them and took them with him, up in the top of the mountain Olympus where he transformed them in culvers and after that in stars. That is another theory for their name. Pleiades, maybe comes from Peleiades which means wild pigeons.

The most famous amongst them was Maia who gave birth to Hemres, by making love to Zeus. Taygeta gave birth to a semiGod, Lakedemonas, by making love to Zeus. No mistake here. Zeus was very well known for his affection with women. Another two of them, where "united" with Posidonas, Zeus's brother and master of the sea.

Only Merope married a mortal. That is the explanation ancient Greeks gave to the fact that she is the star that is the hardest to see from earth. Others say that the star with the dimmest light is Electra, mourning for the downfall of Troy, because she was the mother of Dardanous, the patriarch of Troy's.
